NO MORE GARBAGE NEW PUBLIC SCHOOL OPTION IN DISTRICT 6 FRIENDS OF DONNELLAN SQUARE GARBAGE POLITICS City Council recently held Hearings on the New York City Solid Waste Plan which previously included the West 135th Garage Transfer Station. Last October, MAYOR BLOOMBERG announced that the W.135th Street Marine Transfer Station will not reopen. Now it's time for the City Council to support the Mayor's decision and vote to keep the garbage Station closed. WE ACT and members of the Northern Manhattan Environmental Justice Coalition testified at the hearings in support of the Mayor's decis FELLOW RIDERS OF THE A/C UPGRADES PLANNED FOR ST NICHOLAS PARK As you know, St. Nicholas Park has been awarded $1.2 Million from Councilmember Jackson's office to repair the staircase between 132nd St. and 133rd St (southernmost staircase). The money will cover Phase I of repairs, which will include staircase design, landscaping around the staircase, purchasing new stone and repairs. more >>> MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS HISTORIC DISTRICT COMMITTEE CONTINUES FIGHT TO SAVE Dear Friends, The Cathedral of St. John the Divine is in peril. Negotiations are underway with private developers and with Columbia University to bring massive for-profit construction onto the Cathedral Close, construction that would desecrate this magnificent, historic, sacred site. The Morningside Heights Historic District Committee has nominated the Cathedral for inclusion on the National Trust's 2005 list of eleven most endangered historic places.
