City Council recently held Hearings on the New York City Solid Waste Plan which previously included the West 135th Garage Transfer Station. Last October, MAYOR BLOOMBERG announced that the W.135th Street Marine Transfer Station will not reopen. Now it's time for the City Council to support the Mayor's decision and vote to keep the garbage Station closed. WE ACT and members of the Northern Manhattan Environmental Justice Coalition testified at the hearings in support of the Mayor's decision and urged City Council members to do the same. If you were not able to attend the hearings, it is not too late to submit testimony to the Sanitation and Solid Waste Committee in support of the exclusion of the 135th MTS. Mail your written testimony to: Carmen Cognetta, Counsel-Sanitation and Solid Waste Management Committee, New York City Council, 250 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, New York 10007. For additional information, please contact Yolande A. Cadore, WEACT, 212-961-1000 ext. 316 or e-mail yolande@weact.org. For more info, please visit: .
