Commercial Revitalization and Economic Development

The CPO has been coordinating its effort with a number of community organizations
to address economic development and commercial revitalization along Amsterdam
Avenue 138th -155th Street; W. 145th Street, Amsterdam Ave - St. Nicholas Ave;
and St. Nicholas Ave, 141st - 150th. Groups include West Harlem Group Assistance
and Heritage Health and Housing which is overseeing the Heritage Heights Village
CR program.
The CPO has assisted with this effort by working with property owners to make
façade improvements, beautify the commercial strip, and publicize vacant
storefronts. The CPO is also focusing on the replacement and removal of illegal
billboards, inappropriate storefronts, signage and awnings that are not consistent
with the historic character of the neighborhood.
